Internet English may be "a major risk for humanity" (Economist article)

The ubiquity of English on the net and its use as a standard global language is the subject of an excellent article in this week's Economist. In addition to Chirac's "major risk" observation, the piece quotes an 1898 interview with Bismarck on the decisive factor in modern history: "The fact that the North Americans speak English."
