When it comes to the Web, even the "professional" designers and writers lack sense. But perhaps that's just the natural order of things.

Some designers are always going to design for themselves (they're artistes, you know) without an eye on the process or the user. Thus you get huge graphics that take "only a five minutes" to download. They're the same people who design four-color publications when the printing plant can't handle it or when a simple two-color job will do.

Same with writers. Either they're in love with every word they compose, or they boil everything down to two or three sentences, which doesn't always work either.
