One element of most traditional paper-based publications that is lost on the web is the Editor. This innevitably affects the readability of the electronic text. It is not, however, an issue relating to electronic media as a whole. Most CD-ROMs utilise the services of an editor and most Church magazines do not. Nevertheless, the mass communication potential of the web ensures that a much greater proportion of non-edited text is reaching the general public. As such, we might assume that a greater amount of 'unreadable' text is now available due to electronic media. It appears however that most people are aware of the need to hold the reader's attention on the web and are becoming proficient at self-editing. Quite an encouraging thought!?!
