What makes electronic text readable?

I am a print publications editor working increasingly with educational electronic documents, for the Web, for CBT, etc.

I know what makes text readable for printed documents for various audiences, but how do these values correspond to readability, comprehension, and learning via electronic media?

I would be very interested in learning how others are defining these standards.
